Tour Update 4/8/2016 – MAPS!!!

8 04 2016

Below you’ll find a link to the maps from John Hennessy’s first edition of An End To Innocence. These are not the same as the maps in the new edition, but for now I’m making them available to you so you can print them out or download them to your mobile device and have them along for the tour. And as always, check back here often for updates that may include additional documents.

Thank you for the maps. I will hold a question concerning them to the appropriate chronological point in your procession of post-its.

Hi Joseph – these maps have nothing to do with Longacre’s book. They are from Hennessy’s book and we’ll be using them on the tour on the 23rd.

But the question I have concerns the comparison between Hennessy’s map, with Sherman’s turning right on the road after fording Bull Run (and reaching the front by a roundabout route), and Longacre’s map which, if I remember correctly, has Sherman continuing to head straight across the field of battle.

I was thinking that this issue you may want this question postponed until you reach that point in the battle’s timeline.

Yes, Longacre has Sherman going through at least two separate woods and up and down hills. Hennessy’s new maps (not the ones here) have Sherman moving along the farm road toward Pittsylvania (that is, not going down to the Pike).
