Tour First Bull Run

30 12 2015

DSCN0698

As hinted at in this interview, plans are afoot for a Bull Runnings outing along with John Hennessy, the author of The First Battle of Manassas, an End to Innocence. This will be a fairly informal day on the field. Right now, we’re looking at Saturday, April 23, 2016. Tentatively, we’ll start bright and early, break for lunch, and finish up in the afternoon. Logistics are in the formative stage, but this will likely be a caravan. But no planning can begin until we have an idea how many folks want to join us. So, with that in mind, sound off in the comments section here on the blog if you’re in.

I will be back East in August for the Emerging Civil War conference–maybe some of us can meet up? Thought I’d put it out there.

I just happened to stumble across this info on LinkedIn, and gave not read the book, but I’m interested in the battlefield outing in April. How do I “stay in the know”?

I might actually fly to Virginia just for this. I’ve been thinking of starting to regularly fly out to Virginia on weekend flight deals, to get better acquainted with Manassas and Antietam. Would be fun.

Harry, I’ll plan to be there and thanks for the invitation.. Jim Morgan’s presence suggests, after all, that his fellow Marine be present to secure Jim’s flanks. By the way–and with your indulgence–I have a short presentation/gift to make to John, and it will take no more than a minute. Hint: The “gift” has something to do with John’s seminal 2nd Manassas book, “Return to Bull Run” (1993), and if you wish to know what the gift is ahead of time, I’d be happy to share the mystery with you. Otherwise, it’s a secret. It just seems appropriate to render this unique gift on the Manassas Battlefield. Additional hint: John will recognize it. (The indomitable Teej might consist to help out with the presentation.)

As we get closer, we can figure out those things we want to look at or explore… And I can talk about those things that continue to perplex. Looks like there will be people along who know a great deal… We’ll all learn something…..

Tour Update 2/1/2016 | Bull Runnings

[…] 4 – LET ME KNOW THAT YOU ARE COMING. Preferably on the Facebook event page here, by clicking the “Going” button, or the “interested” button if you’re not sure. If that changes, just change your status to “not going.” The Facebook event page is the best place to keep up on what’s going on with the plans, book recommendations, and the like. If you’re still living in the (19)90s, you can continue to express interest in attendance in the comments section to this earlier post. […]
