A More Narrow Poll

27 02 2013

I’ve noticed since I’ve shifted a lot of items to Facebook and Twitter that I used to post here that readership of the blog, as indicated by hit counts, has decreased significantly. That’s OK by me and is not entirely unanticipated. But now that I’ve shallowed the pool, so to speak, I’m curious to know why you that still visit regularly do so. So in this poll, I’ve narrowed down the reasons to two fairly broad ones. Please select the primary reason you visit Bull Runnings below. Thanks!

Brett S. - The Siege of Petersburg Online

Harry, this is an interesting topic of discussion. I sometimes struggle to stay disciplined with keeping Siege of Petersburg stuff at my Siege of Petersburg site and doing more general Civil War stuff over at TOCWOC. In many cases I just cross-post items which may also be of interest to TOCWOC readers, though I admit to probably doing that too much in an effort to show TOCWOC readers that I have another, newer site.

Thanks for the input, Brett. I think I’ll set up another poll to find out how Bull Runnings’ Facebook and Twitter presence has affected blog viewership – it seems I’ve been assuming in that regard.

Harry:

That’s a hard one to answer, believe it or not. And what about your author interviews? Guessing that might be a vote for the second option?

Are you more interested in interviews with authors writing about Bull Run or about other CW topics?

That’s like asking if I prefer a baked potato or fries with my steak. I like both, so it’s hard to pick a true preference.

How’s that for a terrible analogy?

Who over the age of 14 would eat french fries with steak?

Do I really have to answer that? Plus, I’m talking really good fries. You know, fresh, hand-cut, double-fried, etc.

I concentrate on different aspects of the conflict at different times, but an underrated part of your site are the many fantastic links. They can take you to sites specializing in about any part the war,(and then some,) and many of them I don’t think I would have found on my own. Thanks for sharing your many Civil War contacts with us! However when I want First Bull Run info your site is my number one stop!

Thanks Luke…I try to keep my links up to date, but have to admit I’m sometimes behind. Glad you find them useful.

I like the focus on Bull Run but I really like how you talk about the war in general. I think it helps put the battle in a context and I like reading your opinions on other parts of the war. Since so many of the officers that would influence the war got their start at the battle that you are a expert on your opinion on them and the course of the war is fascinating.
