The new Civil War Trust Bull Run Battle App for ‘Droid is here. Half a yippee, or maybe a yip. I can’t find it on my phone in the ‘Droid app marketplace. I also can’t get my phone to download the new version of WordPress for ‘Droid. And yes, my phone runs on ‘Droid, wiseacre.

Hello! I’m Harry Smeltzer and welcome to Bull Runnings, where you'll find my digital history project on the First Battle of Bull Run which is organized under the Bull Run Resources section. I'll also post my thoughts on the processes behind the project and commentary on the campaign, but pretty much all things Civil War are fair game. You'll only find musings on my “real job” or my personal life when they relate to this project. My mother always told me "never discuss politics or religion in mixed company”, and that's sound advice where current events are concerned.
The Project
This site is more than a blog. Bull Runnings also hosts digitized material pertaining to First Bull Run. I can’t speak to the WordPress app, but I downloaded the Bull Run app to my Droid Incredible without any problem. I did it from the CWT website; perhaps it isn’t in the Droid marketplace yet?

Nah, just try a different approach. Give it a try from the CWT site. A glass of scotch while doing it can’t hurt, either.

Tried that – it then takes me to the Droid app market, asks me for my Google password, then tells me I don’t have a phone. Apparently though I’m the only person with this problem, and it probably has something to do with the fact that I never download apps. I don’t even have Angry Birds.

I don’t have Angry Birds either: just a P-O’d squirrel in a tree in the backyard. At the bottom of the Android Market page is ‘My Market Account’. If you click on that, the next screen has, in the upper RH corner, it says ‘Having trouble downloading?’. Have you gone into that yet? Perhaps what is in there can help.

The good folks at CWT called me to help me out. Looks like I need to update my system – which I have not done since I got the phone a year and a half ago. Doing that now and all should be well…

All is well!! I have the new Bull Run Battle App, and the new WordPress! And in the bargain, it looks like I’ll have an interview in the future with the CWT’s Rob Shenk where he’ll discuss their battlefield apps.
