Various magazines are out which include good stuff on First Bull Run. In fact, I’ll wager that more Bull Run material will be published in periodicals this year than have been published in the last 50 years. So with no further ado, lets start with Hallowed Ground, the quarterly publication of the Civil War Trust.
- The Hidden Marker of the 7th Georgia Infantry – NPS historian at Manassas National Battlefield Park (MNBP) Greg Wolf tells you how to find one of the more obscure markers on the battlefield.
- The Centennial Reenactment of First Manassas – NPS MNBP historian John Reid recalls the commemoration of the battle 50 years ago.
- Spectators Witness History at Manassas – NPS MNBP museum specialist Jim Burgess looks at the facts and fancies of the story of picnicking civilians.
- The Yankee Van Pelt – NPS MNBP chief interpretive ranger Ray Brown tells the story of a transplanted New Jerseyan who lived at the center of the battle.
- An End to Innocence: The First Battle of Manassas – historian Brad Gottfried provides an overview of the battle.
And on page 25, you’ll find an interview with the host of Bull Runnings. That alone is worth the price of membership! There’s other good stuff in here, too. This issue of Hallowed Ground is a must have for your Bull Run collection.
Okay, so now I have to go find the 5th marker. Any instructions if I find the Holy Grail\Elvis\Jimmy H along the way? If you don’t hear back from me, send out the dogs.
