Great interview. Looks to be some excellent work by Bearss and Savas publishing.

I have been fascinated with the Petersburg Campaign ever since getting 'The Last Citadel' by Trudeau for my birthday. Frassanito's book of photographs on the campaign is also a favorite of mine.

I think the best regimental history that covers Petersburg is 'Mother, May You Never See the Sights I Have Seen: The Fifty-Seventh Massachusetts Veteran Volunteers in the Army of the Potomac, 1864-1865' by Warren Wilkinson. He really brings home the horrors of the campaign and siege. His writing is some of the best ever done on a Civil War regiment after Pullen.

Thanks for this interview Harry- my copy of the book just arrived recently, I am greatly looking forward to it. It is amazing how many histories gloss over Petersburg, especially early regimental works and even eye-witness memoirs. I imagine a major reason for this is that major war-weariness had set in by this point. At any rate it is certainly difficult to come across clear narratives relating to Irish participants in many of these engagements.
