Harry. This is one of the best of all the thousands of extant letters describing the battle. Though the Hampton Legion is often overlooked because their involvement preceded the larger mayhem on Henry Hill, they are in fact one of the best documented of all the Confederate regiments. In addition to Hutson's letter, my file has thirteen other letters written at the time, plus a postwar account. I'm amazed no one has ever done some sort of micro-study on them. Some of the verbiage is great--highly quotable.
