W. Sherman’s battery, (Company E, 3rd US Arty), which was commanded by Romeyn Ayres at Bull Run and attached to W. T. Sherman’s brigade. McPherson is refering to the guns of Griffin’s West Point battery (Company D, 5th US Arty)
