I love the way they refuse to say the South won the Battle of First Manassas, almost like it didn’t happen…….there were two sides in the war, people, some won one battle and some won another.

The beginnings of the Civil War was NOT over Slavery. The fight started over
the increased Tariff on Cotton. The US Congress passed new export/import
Taxes, two days before Lincoln was Inaugralated into office. The Southern
States rebelled against the Tariff & decided to leave the Union as the only
alternative; they could not grow and sell the Cotton to England, profitably.
The Northern States were broke and mired in a lack of Merchantable Goods
to Export. The US Treasury was out of funds and could not operate; a Tax
on Import/export good was the only viable source of revenue to the Treas.

As an old stamp collector, I thought of how excited I was by the previous CW stamps, and how I hurriedly rushed out and got some to put on letters and cards. I will buy these, but not to use — we almost never send letters and cards these days. All-mail!
