I too was shocked to hear of Art's passing. He was ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS unfailingly kind and patient. He was a great historian and an even better person. He always answered e-mails quickly, and with the answer to my question. Always had time to talk about my project, or anyone else's for that mater, and ready to lend his expertise. AHEC will not the the same without him. As a Trans-Mississippi historian, there aren't too many of us, and Art was one of the best. He will be sorely missed. My sincerest condolences to his family.

This is shocking news, and a great loss to the ACW community. Hard to believe that I won't see him at Carlisle the next time I'm there. Ken

Very saddened by this news. He always answered any questions I had about his work, and was fortunate to meet him once down at Pamplin Park. He will be missed.

I very much enjoyed Mr. Bergeron's book on Confederate Mobile. Civil War historians of his caliber are not made every day. He will be missed by Civil War readers.
