Don’t attempt to adjust your computer screen. We control the vertical. We control the horizontal. For all you Californians, that’s snow falling on Bull Runnings, courtesy of WordPress’s extras. You guys out there get great big giant fake breasts, we here in Pittsburgh get snow. I for one am glad for it, ’cause if it was the other way around shoveling my driveway would be a real bear.
Happy Holidays!

Harry, That’s cool! I need to look at those WordPress extras. You guys getting real snow up your way today. Looks like it here and we might get some light now later today. I’m betting we won’t see our first measurable snow till around 12/22 down this way.
We’ve had snow off and on the last few weeks, but no real accumulation yet.
Harry,
Have you tried to install “Gears” yet? I’m curious to know what it does.
Nope, haven’t tried that. Is it free? I haven’t paid for any additional features yet.
It is free… some sort of additional thing for the IE browser.
Hey Harry, doesn’t WordPress 2.7 allow you to format comments as threads? I am looking forward to using it once it hits WordPress.org some time next week.
Kevin,
It looks like Robert answered your question. I know on my dashboard I now can view comments in a thread type format, but I don’t think there is any change to how they appear to the reader.
There’s also a new “my comments” feature, that tracks your comments across all WordPress blogs.
Kevin,
Looking at the comments dashboard, I don’t see where it allows for that type of formatting. It may be that I just haven’t figured found the right place to look yet.
I do know that, from the comments dashboard, when viewing comments, you can respond directly to a specific comment. However, on the actual post page, the response to a comment does not show up as a thread. It looks just like it did before,
Hey Harry,
Cool snow….you know, we got some snow here in Knoxville today….yep….it lasted, gosh, well into 8 minutes!! No accumulation, my favorite kind!
Hope all is well with you!
Chris
Hey Chris,
Good to hear from you. I thought you were Snake Pliskin!
Harry,
Your alternative for snow does have me glancing at the sky.
Mannie
Mannie,
Thinking of a scene from a certain Woody Allen movie, are we?
Next WorldPress will offer a gidget to change the size and intensity of the snow seen on your blog. Settings to include:
- Charlie Brown sized round snowflakes.
- Snowflakes replaced by margarita salt for the snowbirds in Florida.
- A dense setting which approximates Lake Effect Snow. But will require an automated “bot” snow blower to keep your home page cleared.
- Yet a higher setting which turns your blog page into the proverbial photo of a polar bear eating marshmallows on an iceberg.
- and just for us Civil War Buffs – a W.W. Loring setting which replaces the snow with minie balls. “Give them Blizzards!”
Been following your blog for a long time and I had no idea you were from Pittsburgh. I live in the South Hills…that snow came down fast yesterday and made the roads dicey!
I wanted to leave it on all day to see if it would drift the way it does up here in Michigan.
Craig,
You’ve got a career as a WordPress gizmo designer ahead of you.
JE,
I was at the Steelers game yesterday – I’m just getting the feeling back in my toes!
Don,
No, I tired that. The snow gathers for a bit, but then melts away, so there’s never more than a light dusting at the bottom of the screen.
