I have conducted extensive research on Col. Erasmus Burt for the Glenfiddich House in Leesburg, VA. After taking a shot to the right hip during the Battle of Balls Bluff, Col. Burt was transferred to the then Harrison House where he succumbed to his injuries four days later. I once came across a letter from the attending field physician to his wife in Richmond that vividly described Burt's injury and his comments to his men as he was carried from the field, but have since lost the letter and the doctor's name. If, in your research, you come across this letter, I would greatly appreciate a copy or a transcription of the contents.
