I’ll have more on this later, but if you have your colleciton of Civil War Regiments handy, look for the one with Brian Pohanka’s edit of the letter(s) of a member of the 11th (Vol 5, #4), and pay particular attention to footnote #4. You can also read about the uniform on the web link I provided, and in McAfee’s little book which is probably sewn into the lining of your jacket ;-)

At First Manassas many removed their jackets & fought in their fireman-style red shirts. However, there was little uniformity in the outfit of the Fire Zouave.
